About Acuatic Tulum
Acuatic Tulum is the original and longest-running dive centre in Tulum, established in 1993 by legendary cave diver and explorer Alejandro (Alex) Alvarez — a National Geographic collaborator and Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) partner. The freediving programme uses the Apnea Total certification system, renowned for its 100% safety record, and takes place exclusively in the freshwater cenotes of the Yucatán Peninsula. Learn freediving and apnea in one of the world's most spectacular underwater environments: crystal-clear cenote waters with exceptional visibility and stable year-round conditions. Courses range from a one-day Freedive Experience for first-timers to the Apnea Total Freediver and Advanced Freediver certifications for those looking to reach depths beyond 30 metres. All freediving courses include instruction by a certified freediving instructor, all necessary equipment, transport to the cenotes, entrance fees, and certification.
Structured Apnea Total methodology covering breathwork, body technique, safety, and progressive depth training across theory sessions, confined water practice, and open-water cenote dives.
Whether you are looking to discover apnea for the first time or earn a recognised freediving certification in Tulum Cenotes, Acuatic Tulum provides a structured path. The school accepts both first-time freedivers and experienced divers pursuing deeper progression. Instruction is available in English and Spanish.
