About Freedive Tulum
Freedive Tulum — tagline "Unearth Yourself" — is an Apnea Total freediving centre in Tulum, Mexico, run by founder and lead instructor Chris "Elvis" James. The school teaches breath-hold diving and apnea in the crystal-clear, current-free freshwater cenotes of the Yucatán Peninsula, including Cenote Angelita and Cenote Kaan Luum. Courses: Freediver ($450 USD, 3–3.5 days, to 21 m), Advanced Freediver ($550 USD, 4 days, to 40 m with exhale diving and advanced technique), and Rescue Freediver Masterclass (4 days, AIDA Depth Competition Safety Freediver + DAN O2 Provider + DAN BLS certifications). Coached sessions are available for already-certified freedivers. Chris James has served as Chief of Safety at the 2021 and 2022 AIDA World Championships (Cyprus and Roatan), as AIDA and CMAS Judge, and has participated in 40+ freediving world record attempts and competitions alongside world record holders Billy Trubridge and Alexey Molchanov.
Apnea Total methodology with a strong emphasis on the inner journey of freediving — students are guided through progressive cenote dives focused on relaxation, body awareness, equalization, and mental freedom rather than performance targets.
